The owners, Rodney and Christeen Hitchcock, are from St. Anthony and Parker. They hope to sell used books, of course, but they will also take in old books for credit towards trade-ins, which is likely to be most of their business at first. They have a number of used books, mostly from their own collections to start with. They are all organized into several categories arranged throughout the store.
They get the pricing for used books from many sources online, and prices are also dependent on the condition of the book. Most hardbacks are going to be priced around $5.00 to $7.00 dollars each. Paperbacks will also have a pricing structure about half of the hardback price for now, according to the Hitchcock’s son Joe, who is managing the store until he goes on a mission for the LDS Church early next year.
When I asked them why they chose the name “The St. Anthony Train Depot” for a used book store, they explained that since St. Anthony was once a train station stop, and many people in their family have worked in the railroad, it seemed the right name. The sign on the front of the store was painted by Rodney and Christeen’s daughter, who, with her husband, recently purchased the Fremont Fitness Center next door to the new book shop.
The shop has chairs for people to sit in and they also have a children’s section for children to read in. The Hitchcocks will also have an electric train setup in the store at sometime in the future.
The Hitchcocks want to see St. Anthony have more businesses as well as offer a product that people want. Please stop by and see what they have to offer. The St. Anthony Train Depot is located at 36 N. Bridge in St. Anthony, Idaho or call them at (208) 201-0906.
